Education
Daniel completed his medical degree (MBChB) at Auckland University in 1999. He undertook Basic Surgical Training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 2001 until beginning Advanced Surgical Training in Ear, Nose and Throat surgery in 2005, winning the Gordon Gordon-Taylor medal for highest mark in the Part 1 surgical examinations.
Daniel spent time training at various hospitals in New Zealand including the Starship Children’s Hospital. He was fortunate to spend a year of his advanced surgical training working with A/Prof Richard Douglas in sinus and skull base surgery. Following completion of his advanced surgical training in 2009 he then undertook further specialist training in advanced sinus surgery, rhinoplasty and skull base surgery with Prof Richard Harvey, A/Prof Ray Sacks and Dr George Marcells in Sydney. Following this he spent further time in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Dr Aldo Stamm, a pioneer and world leader in endoscopic skull base surgery. He has published papers on chronic sinusitis, sinus and skull base surgery and rhinoplasty, and presented at various national and international conferences.
Special interests
Sinusitis and sinus surgery: Daniel is trained in comprehensive medical and surgical management of sinusitis. He uses modern surgical techniques along with medical treatment and close follow up after surgery to achieve the best results possible. This includes assessment and treatment of patients who are having sinus problems despite previous surgery – in most cases we can help, and this may or may not require further surgery.
Rhinoplasty: Daniel trained in rhinoplasty with Dr George Marcells who is one of Sydney’s preeminent rhinoplasty surgeons. This included advanced rhinoplasty techniques and research emphasising both function and aesthetics. Careful preoperative assessment and planning, meticulous surgery using open structure techniques and close follow up are all required to achieve the desired results.
Endoscopic skull base surgery: Daniel has specialty training in endoscopic skull base surgery. This is generally performed by ENT and neurosurgeons working together, and he is involved with developing skull base services on the Sunshine Coast along with Coastal Brain and Spine.
